Governor Reynolds has announced an extension of the statewide school closure through April 30. As you might have heard, schools are to stay closed until April 30th with a possibility of closure extension until the end of the school year. We have been doing some consultations and exploring options available to help our students learn while at home. The school board agreed that we need to do our best to provide learning resources for the students. The Senate and House have agreed to waive the requirement for Iowa schools to reschedule days canceled following Governor Reynolds’ recommendation. Any classes previously scheduled from March 16, 2020 to April 30, 2020 will not be required to be rescheduled, assuming we choose to provide either voluntary educational opportunities, required distance learning opportunities, or a combination of both. This allows flexibility for schools to assess the situation as it moves forward. We chose the voluntary education and are working with our staff to help provide resources and educational materials for the students and we encourage you to reach out to your child teachers to learn more about these resource or if you need help.
Access to Buildings: Our facility is closed through end of the school year and until further notice, no adults or students will be allowed in the building,
Meals for Students: Some schools are offering free breakfast and lunch to the district families through this school closure as long as supplies are available. In addition to current serving sites, grab and go meals will be offered at assigned locations and time. If you need to use this service please let our principal know so she can connect you with the right location in your district area.
Childcare: During this critical time our day care is to still open to serve working parents who are in need for day care. Due to the restricted state and health regulations we are limiting the number of staff and child in each classroom and following the CDC guidance in hand washing, sanitizing and disinfecting, checking temperature and not allowing parents, visitors and adults other than the day care staff in the facility.
Online learning resources: Our teachers will continue weekly communication with resources for your student(s). We will contact those families indicating a technology need as those resources are available. Please check Mediacom website for an affordable internet offer https://mediacomc2c.com/apply.aspx . AlRazi Academy is accepting Chromebooks donations to help students access online learning.
I will say it again, Thank you for your support, your patience and willingness to help our community and partnership as we work together to maintain a healthy learning environment. We will be in touch as items unfold so please stay tuned to your email, messages, Facebook page and/or our website for updated communication.
